1810Applying theoretical ideas arising from research is a complex task that requires knowledge and understanding in this research field, on the one hand, and executive ability to implement the idea on the other. Dealing with such challenges requires high investment and there are few engineering companies that are ready to enter such projects, because of worry that such projects will be worthwhile.

Carrying out research is a task of researchers from universities and research institutes. Implementation of these studies is carried out by industrial companies which, at times, are being established for the purpose of utilizing the knowledge obtained through those researches (start-up).

State of Israel and its research institutes are at the cutting edge of the technologies, innovate and world leader in many areas. Lavi engineering contributes its part by implementing the innovative ideas from its preliminary stage to production.

Start – ups have limited capacity and resources to perform research and it’s implementation. Their limited budgets and tight schedules, make it difficult to meet predefined objectives and justify the costs and schedules promised to investors and company’s board. In this situation they need services of experienced engineering companies carrying out such work.

These services are provided by Lavi engineering and include a variety of activities such as, assistance for research of the client, mechanical design of the product, Industrial Design,  Finite Element Analysis, rapid prototyping, design the production line, planning tools and testing production line as well as designing machines if required.1810-1

Lavi Engineering has a variety of customers who have not completed the research phase of the product and need get the company to complete it and develop the product further.

One of these projects is “green engine” project which first phase was recently completed successfully in society. “Green engine” is defined as an engine that is environmentally friendly in terms of process and its outcomes and there are numerous types of these motors. The project focused on an engine that runs on hydrogen. Few studies have been carried out and cars that run on hydrogen are already in place, but nearly all of them focus on the production of hydrogen and its storage in the car until usage.

There are many processes of hydrogen production (biological , chemical and physical), but most processes are not mature and production process is not efficient and not economical. One of the more familiar processes is the process of electrolysis. Electrodes are placed into a water tank and electric current decompose water into oxygen and hydrogen. The process is not new and is known in science for centuries. During the last 20 years a lot of attention has been devoted to the subject in order to achieve environmentally friendly engine and alternative fuel of oil products.

The project at Lavi Engineering was defined as a multi stages project, when the first phase focused on proving feasibility of a system that produces hydrogen in the process of electrolysis, is it commercially viable and the production is suitable for use in engine. This phase included design of the gas system production (container with electrodes dipped in tap water) and an electronic system for providing power and control process. The electrodes (anode and cathode) were fed by electronic system when the gas products were poured into the container for further use.

Since the system contained water and electricity it was necessary to design a special sealing system consisting of number of special elements to produce a complete seal for the water tank.

Electronic system controlled the voltage, current and frequency of supply to electrodes. Role of the electronic system was to characterize the optimal electrical current supplied to the hydrogen production. System efficiency was calculated according to the amount of hydrogen obtained in the process.

The project combined a research of the hydrogen engine and the chemical and physical processes involved. During project implementation, number of scientists and engineers were recrouted.

The first phase of the project was successfully completed and we produced two working demonstration systems for customer satisfaction. Client’s management announced that there is great interest of investors in this product and technology.
